Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. Uganda is also known as the “Pearl of Africa”. It is bordered on the east by Kenya, on the north by Sudan, on the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the southwest by Rwanda, and on the south by Tanzania. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, which is also bordered by Kenya and Tanzania. Uganda takes its name from the Buganda kingdom, which encompassed a portion of the south of the country including the capital Kampala. The people of Uganda were hunter-gatherers until 1700 to 2300 years ago, when Bantu-speaking populations migrated to the southern parts of the country.[4] Uganda gained independence from Britain on 9 October 1962. The official languages are English and Swahili, although multiple other languages are spoken in the country. It is a member of the African Union, the Commonwealth of Nations, Organisation of the Islamic Conference and East African Community.

www.ntvuganda.co.ug The ugandan government has this evening reacted to the new video titled Kony 2012 released by invisible children, a US charity that seeks to raise the plight of children under the under the hands of the LRA leader joseph Kony. In a statement from the Uganda media centre, the government said it welcomed efforts that could contribute towards the arrest of Kony and elimination of LRA. The statement however cautioned that the latest campaign should not be misinterpreted to mean either Kony or LRA were active in Uganda.
